Bamberg County South Carolina

Located in the southwestern part of South Carolina, Bamberg County is the second smallest county in the state. Bounded by the South Fork of the Edisto River along the north and the Big Salkehatchie along the southern boundary.

Extending from northeast to southwest of the central part of Bamberg County are many egg-shaped, swampy depressions called Carolina Bays. The best know is the Cathedral Bay, formerly known as Chitty Pond near Olar was acquired as a Heritage Preserve by the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Department.

In addition to being the home of the Edisto River, the longest black water river in the world, Bamberg County is also home to Broxton Bridge Plantation, a hunting preserve which offers all types of hunting, fishing and sporting clay courses.

Seven miles southwest of Ehrhardt, South Carolina is Rivers Bridge State Park, the only state park to commemorate the Confederacy. Rivers Bridge offers trails, fishing, boating, a Confederate relics museum and monuments.
