Located in the southwestern part of
South Carolina, Bamberg County is the
second smallest county in the state.
Bounded by the South Fork of the Edisto
River along the north and the Big
Salkehatchie along the southern
boundary.
Extending from northeast to southwest
of the central part of Bamberg County
are many egg-shaped, swampy depressions
called Carolina Bays. The best know is
the Cathedral Bay, formerly known as
Chitty Pond near Olar was acquired as a
Heritage Preserve by the South Carolina
Wildlife and Marine Resources
Department.
In addition to being the home of the
Edisto River, the longest black water
river in the world, Bamberg County is
also home to Broxton Bridge Plantation,
a hunting preserve which offers all
types of hunting, fishing and sporting
clay courses.
Seven miles southwest of Ehrhardt,
South Carolina is Rivers Bridge State
Park, the only state park to commemorate
the Confederacy. Rivers Bridge offers
trails, fishing, boating, a Confederate
relics museum and monuments.
